 Haxial Hash Product Page

Description

Haxial Hash is useful for verifying that a file has been downloaded correctly (the internet occasionally damages files). It is also useful in other circumstances where you want to verify the validity of a file to see whether or not it has been changed or corrupted.

More precisely, Haxial Hash generates a "hash" (also known as a "checksum" or "message digest") of the contents of a file (the file data). The same file data will always produce the same hash. Different data produces different hashes. So if you generate the hash on 2 files, and if the hash is identical, then you can say with a very high degree of probability that the contents of the 2 files are identical.

The hash that Haxial Hash generates is at least 160 bits (actually more because it includes the file size). This makes it many times more accurate than a CRC-32 or a checksum. The probability that an error could go undetected with Haxial Hash is extremely low indeed (but not impossible, as is the case with all hashes).

Note: You can only use Hash if you can run it on the original file as well as the copy, or if the hash of the original file has been published or is otherwise in your possession. For example, if you download a file from a website, you cannot verify your copy unless the hash of the original file was also published on the website.

Hashes of Haxial program archives are available here.
