Configuring a Linksys RouterSuch as:"BEFSR11 -- EtherFast(R) Cable / DSL Router" "BEFSR41 -- EtherFast(R) Cable / DSL Router with 4-Port Switch" 1. Open your web browser and go to http://192.168.1.1/ which should be the LAN address of your Linksys router. Or if that does not work, read the documentation that came with your router in order to discover its address (RTFM!). 2. Enter the login and password for your router. The default login is blank and the password is "admin" (yes, not the other way around). Or if that does not work, RTFM. 3. Click "Advanced" near the top right. 4. Click "Forwarding" near the top. It looks like this:
5. In the "Customized Applications" box, type the name of the program you want to use. For example, KDX Server, or NetFone, etc. 6. In both "Ext.Port" boxes, type the port number of the program you want to use. For KDX Server, you would put 10700 (unless you changed it). For NetFone, you would put 10200 (unless you changed it). 7. If the program uses TCP/IP, tick the "Protocol TCP" box. If the program uses UDP/IP, tick the "Protocol UDP" box. At least one of these must be ticked. If you are not sure which to tick, you can tick both. 8. In the "IP Address" box, type the LAN address of the computer that is running the program you want to use (KDX Server, NetFone, or whatever). 9. Tick the "Enable" box. 10. Click the "Apply" button.
Finding Your Public Internet AddressYou cannot tell someone on the internet to connect to you using an address that begins with 192.168.x.x because this is the private LAN address of your computer. You need to tell them your public/real IP address instead, which can be obtained as follows. 1. Login to your Linksys router as described above. 2. Click "Status" near the top. It looks like this:
3. Look for where it says "WAN", and below that is "IP Address:". This is your public/real IP address that people on the internet can use to connect to you. In the above example screenshot, the address being displayed is "200.0.0.10".
