Configuring D-Link Router

Such as:
"D-Link DL-614+"

1. Use a web browser (such as MS Internet Explorer) to login to your D-Link router. If you need help with this, check the documentation that came with your D-Link router.

2. Click the "Advanced" tab.

3. Click "Virtual Server". It looks like this:

virtual server tab

4. Click "Enabled".

5. For "Name", type in the name of the program you wish to use, for example, KDX Server.

6. For "Private IP", type the LAN address of the computer that is running the program you want to use (for example, KDX Server). The address will look something like "192.168.0.100".

7. For "Protocol Type", select the protocol type of the program you want to use. This is listed on the main Routers page.

8. For both "Private Port" and "Public Port", type the port number of the program you want to use (for example, 10700 for KDX Server). This is also listed on the main Routers page.

9. For "Schedule", click "Always".

10. Click "Apply".

Finding Your Public Internet Address

You cannot tell someone on the internet to connect to you using an address that begins with 192.168.x.x because this is the private LAN address of your computer. You need to tell them your public/real IP address instead, which can be obtained as follows.

1. Login to your router same as you did previously.

2. Click the "Status" tab. It looks like this:

status

3. Look for the "WAN" title. Where it says "IP Address" under "WAN", that is your public internet address.
